OMNI HOTELS said it inked a deal to build the company's third resort in Mexico. The as-yet-unnamed property will be part of master-planned resort community in Pontoque on Mexico's Pacific coast along Banderas Bay. The development will include a luxury Omni resort with a spa and several restaurants as well as single-family homes and condominiums. Ground breaking is expected in 2008 with the first phase opening in 2010. The typical Omni property has between 350 and 500 rooms.

GOGO WORLDWIDE VACATIONS launched a series of vacation packages tailored for solo travelers, including one package to Mexico scheduled for Nov. 8 to 15 at the Omni Cancun Hotel & Villas. Gogo said the programs are in response to a "noticeable increase in travel agents planning vacations for single clients" at destinations that offer a wide range of activities, nightlife and recreation. Gogo said the packages are priced about 30% below typical single rates and include a room to yourself as well as activities such as snorkeling and wine tasting that enable customers to meet other solo travelers. NWA WORLDVACATIONS will launch packages to Puerto Vallarta in 2008 in conjunction with the recently announced daily nonstop flights by Northwest between Memphis and Puerto Vallarta. DESTINATION VENTURES, the event-planning company based in Bend, Ore., is coordinating a series of seminars for agents called "Come to Know Colonial Treasures," focusing on the tourism product in the Mexican states of Aguascalientes, Durango, Guanajuato, Michoacan, Queretaro, San Luis Potosi and Zacatecas. The seminars will focus on the area's cultural appeal as well as educate agents on air service and tour operator programs in the various regions. Exhibitors will include tour operators, airlines, hotels and the tourism boards representing the seven states. Events are scheduled for Chicago on Aug. 21, New York on Aug. 23, Los Angeles on Nov. 13 and Houston on Nov. 15. TRAVELOCITY launched Travelocity.com.mx, a Web site targeting customers in Mexico. The site is Travelocity's first Spanish site in North America and the first by a U.S.-based online travel agency in Latin America. The site is currently written in both English and Spanish but is scheduled to be fully in Spanish in 2008. Customer service calls for the Mexico site are handled by Spanish-speaking agents in a Travelocity call center in San Antonio.
