Travel Weekly's Mexico E-letter: Aug. 23, 2006

THE CLUB MED CANCUN YUCATAN will reopen its doors on Nov. 11 following a 13-month, $20 million renovation that resulted from last year's Hurricane Wilma. Changes at the resort, which will no longer be an adults-only property, include new family and children's programs; cultural programs designed to acquaint guests with the Yucatan region; upgraded amenities and services; and a new wing called Jade Villa offering higher-end services like a concierge, a private beach, Wi-Fi access and upscale amenities. More than half of the resort's 396 rooms were enlarged, including the 18 suites.

THE PROPERTY will reopen with a new focus on culture with a Discovery Center offering some 17 excursions for all ages, including tours of archeological sites in Coba and Tulum, and trips to explore the underground caves (cenotes) of Ek Balam and the Sian Ka'an marine park. A new focus on families will include Club Med's Mini Club program for kids ages 4 to 10 and the PassWorld program for older kids and teens. Seven-night all-inclusive rates will start at $1,190 per person, double, in the low season and $1,350 in high season; rates in the Jade Villa will start at $1,428. For information or reservations, visit www.clubmed.com.
