Travel Weekly's Mexico E-letter: Feb. 14, 2007

THE MELIA CABO SAN LUCAS has been rebranded the ME Cabo, making it the third property within the ME by Melia portfolio of hotels and the second of the new brand's properties in Mexico. The first ME hotel in Mexico, ME Cancun, opened last month. The "new" ME Cabo recently completed a multimillion-dollar renovation. The 150-room ME Cabo features the brand's signature Yhi Spa, a 7,036-square-foot space featuring treatment rooms, a fitness center and a Temascal sweat lodge. Rooms feature Wi-FI Internet access; flat-screen TVs; an entertainment center with such things as iPod adaptors and docking stations; and beds with pillow-top mattresses. Restaurants include the Passion Club and the beachside Deck, Grill and Lounge. Guests have free access to the Nikki Beach Club, which features poolside day beds; live music and entertainment; and a restaurant. Visit www.mebymelia.com.

THE VILLA GROUP, one of Mexico's top resort development and ownership companies, said it acquired oceanfront lots on Isla Mujeres and on the bay of Ensenada Blanca in Loreto to build resorts in each location. "With the proven success of our Villa La Estancia and Villa del Palmar brands in Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta, our plan is to build these properties side by side on other destinations," said Owen Perry, one of the Villa Group's owners. Property details and opening dates were not disclosed. The Loreto development, however, will include an 18-hole golf course.

GUESTS OF THE UPSCALE Las Ventanas al Paraiso in Los Cabos will receive a "bath menu" along with their regular dinner menu when they dine at the Restaurant. The bath menu offers a choice of "stress relieving," "rejuvenating," and "sensual & romantic" baths that will be prepared while the guest is at dinner. The after-dinner bath menu also includes a variety of champagnes, tequilas and Cuban cigars. The bath menu is the latest in a long list of luxury amenities available at Las Ventanas. The resort, which was the first in Mexico to offer preloaded iPods by the pool, also offers Mini Cooper convertibles and Porsche Boxsters for rent. Visit www.rosewoodhotels.com.
