Travel Weekly's Mexico E-letter: March 26, 2008

EL DORADO SPA RESORTS & HOTELS and Azul Hotels by Karisma launched the Gourmet Inclusive Vacation Consultant Program, an initiative to familiarize the trade with the company's Riviera Maya properties and boost travel agent business. The program will center around a series of fam trips during which time agents will tour the hotel company's properties, learn about its Gourmet Inclusive vacation philosophy and become familiar with the Riviera Maya. Among other benefits, agents who complete the program will be listed on the hotel company's Web site as a GI Vacation Consultant and will accumulate points towards free travel for every booking. To learn about the program, call (866) KARISMA or visit

OASIS HOTELS & RESORTS opened the Grand Oasis Viva Beach in Cancun. Oasis said it had planned to call the property Sens Del Mar but decided to instead brand it a Grand Oasis property because of Grand Oasis' "significant brand equity." Oasis said its Sens brand, which includes the recently opened Sens Cancun, is "still too new and not yet as popular" as its Oasis brand. Despite the decision to scratch the Sens name from the property, the resort will feature all the high-tech features and boutique-style design elements originally planned for the Sens Del Mar. The resort includes a spa and fitness center, an infinity pool overlooking the beach, seven restaurants and six bars and access to a nearby nine-hole golf course. All-inclusive rates start at $99 a night, per person, double, from April 1 to Aug. 10. Call (800) 44-OASIS or visit

PLEASANT HOLIDAYS launched a Mexico Sizzling Summer Sale featuring added value and a $50 activity credit for bookings made by March 31. The promotion applies to travel from April 1 to Aug. 31. Depending on the participating property, the promotion includes such things as free room upgrades and free accommodations and meals for kids. Three-night, land-only packages during the promotion period start at $166 per person, double. Call (800) 448-3333 or visit

BARCELO HOTELS & RESORTS in Mexico are offering a deal to families whose travel originates from Texas and Oklahoma.
