AMRESORTS said it plans to double its Dreams Resorts & Spas portfolio during the next three years with the addition of seven new resorts in Mexico and the Dominican Republic. During the next three years, AMResorts will open five additional Dreams resorts in Mexico: Dreams Nuevo Vallarta Resort & Spa in mid-2008, Dreams Huatulco Resort & Spa in late 2008, Dreams Pearl Sands Riviera Cancun in early 2009, Dreams Punta Mita Resort & Spa in late 2009 and Dreams Vallarta Bay Resort & Spa in early 2010. AMResorts markets its Dreams brand to couples and families seeking luxury, all-inclusive vacations. AMResorts' other two brands are the adults-only Secrets Resorts & Spas and Sunscape Resorts & Spas for families.

MEANWHILE, PLAYA HOTELS & RESORTS said it purchased six all-inclusive resorts in Mexico and the Dominican Republic from Philadelphia-based Apple Leisure Group, the parent of AMResorts. The properties include the Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa, the Dreams Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa and the Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun. Playa Hotels said it will invest in excess of $25 million to renovate the resorts during the next 12 months and possibly rebrand them. The properties will be managed by Barcelo Crestline Corp. Earlier this month, Playa acquired the 249-room Grand Baja Resort & Spa with plans to expand the property to 725 rooms and rename it the Barcelo Los Cabos Resort.

VICEROY HOTELS AND RESORTS, a luxury brand of the Kor Hotel Group, is expanding its presence in Mexico with a new resort in Zihuatanejo. The Viceroy Zihuatanejo will become the luxury brand's second property in Mexico after the Viceroy Mayakoba, which is scheduled to open next year in the Riviera Maya. The Viceroy Zihuatanejo will open in 2010 at the center of Zihuatanejo Bay on Playa La Ropa Beach near its sister property, the Tides Zihuatanejo (formerly the Hotel Villa del Sol). Visit

AEROMEXICO launched three weekly flights from Los Angeles to Puerto Penasco in Sonora state. The flights will be operated by Aeromexico Connect. Flights will depart Los Angeles on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. and arrive in Puerto Penasco at 4 p.m. Return flights will depart Puerto Penasco on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 11:40 a.m. and arrive in Los Angeles at 1:10 p.m.
