AMRESORTS said it plans to double its
Dreams Resorts & Spas portfolio during the next three years
with the addition of seven new resorts in Mexico and the Dominican
Republic. During the next three years, AMResorts will open five
additional Dreams resorts in Mexico: Dreams Nuevo Vallarta Resort
& Spa in mid-2008, Dreams Huatulco Resort & Spa in late
2008, Dreams Pearl Sands Riviera Cancun in early 2009, Dreams Punta
Mita Resort & Spa in late 2009 and Dreams Vallarta Bay Resort
& Spa in early 2010. AMResorts markets its Dreams brand to
couples and families seeking luxury, all-inclusive vacations.
AMResorts' other two brands are the adults-only Secrets Resorts
& Spas and Sunscape Resorts & Spas for families.
PLAYA HOTELS & RESORTS said it purchased six
all-inclusive resorts in Mexico and the Dominican Republic from
Philadelphia-based Apple Leisure Group, the parent of AMResorts.
The properties include the Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa, the
Dreams Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa and the Secrets Capri
Riviera Cancun. Playa Hotels said it will invest in excess of $25
million to renovate the resorts during the next 12 months and
possibly rebrand them. The properties will be managed by Barcelo
Crestline Corp. Earlier this month, Playa acquired the 249-room
Grand Baja Resort & Spa with plans to expand the property to
725 rooms and rename it the Barcelo Los Cabos Resort.
HOTELS AND RESORTS, a luxury brand of the Kor Hotel Group,
is expanding its presence in Mexico with a new resort in
Zihuatanejo. The Viceroy Zihuatanejo will become the luxury brand's
second property in Mexico after the Viceroy Mayakoba, which is
scheduled to open next year in the Riviera Maya. The Viceroy
Zihuatanejo will open in 2010 at the center of Zihuatanejo Bay on
Playa La Ropa Beach near its sister property, the Tides Zihuatanejo
(formerly the Hotel Villa del Sol). Visit www.viceroyhotelsandresorts.com.
