WINDY CITY FLIGHTS: Funjet Vacations is launching
non-stop Chicago-area seasonal service from Rockford International
Airport in Rockford, Ill., to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta next
January. Funjet, which has offered Mexico packages from Chicago's
O'Hare and Midway airports for three decades, now will be the sole
provider of such service from Rockford, as well. Seasonal flights
aboard Transmeridian Airlines begin Jan. 26 to Cancun and Jan. 28
to Puerto Vallarta, running through April 16. Funjet is offering
introductory package rates from $599 per person for three nights in
Cancun and and $799 for seven nights in Puerto Vallarta. Agents can

DELTA ON MEXICO SPREE: Meanwhile, Delta Air Lines
filed an application with the U.S. DOT to operate daily non-stops
between New York (Kennedy) and Cancun, in the immediate wake of a
new air transportation agreement between the U.S. and Mexico. On
Dec. 1, it plans to expand service between Atlanta and Cancun, with
two additional daily flights for a total of four daily flights, and
will add a third daily flight between Atlanta and Mexico City.
Beginning March 5, the carrier will offer service to Cozumel from
Atlanta, Salt Lake City and Los Angeles. Delta also has applied to
operate from Atlanta to Merida; from Orlando and Los Angeles to
Cancun; from New York to Cozumel, Cabo San Lucas, Acapulco and
Puerto Vallarta; and from Cincinnati to Cabo San Lucas. For more,

NEW MERIDA DIGS: Presidente InterContinental
Hotels and Resorts will open its ninth 5-star hotel in Mexico, the
Presidente InterContinental Villa Mercedes Merida, in Yucatan state
capital Merida by December. The 150-room hotel will occupy a
19th-century mansion near boulevard Paseo de Montejo, the city's
historic quarter and the convention center. The property, currently
operating as the Hotel Villa Mercedes, is undergoing $12 million in
expansion and renovations. The property is the first in Yucatan
state for Presidente InterContinental, which has hotels in Cancun
and Cozumel in neighboring Quintana Roo. Rates will start at $109
for a deluxe room. Presidente InterContinental pays travel agents
