THE WESTIN
DENARAU ISLAND Resort & Spa, located on 30 acres of
beachfront land on Fijis Denarau Island, opened as the chains first
property in the South Pacific. The property, which first opened in
1974 and was previously flagged the Sheraton Royal Denarau Resort,
recently underwent a $15 million renovation that included upgrading
all 271 guest rooms and five restaurants and lounges, and creating
a two-tiered beachfront pool. The resort is a member of Starwoods
Spa Collection. The resort is part of a 38-hotel portfolio that is
expected to be sold to Host Marriott Corporation later this month
under a $4 billion deal announced last November. It will continue
to be managed by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, parent of
the Westin brand.
SUPER 8
MOTELS launched a Super 8 Night promotion for its hotels
in China. Under the promotion, customers who spend seven nights at
a Super 8 hotel in China will earn one free night, while guests who
spend two nights will be offered a third night for 68% off the
published rack rate. To qualify, customers must present a Super 8
Night Card that can be picked up at front desks at participating
hotels in China or taken from advertisements in the April editions
of China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines in-flight
magazines. Cards also will be mailed to corporate clients. Each
time a guest spends a night at a participating Super 8 property, a
special sticker will be applied to the card. When either two or
seven stickers are accumulated, the cardholder will be eligible for
one of the two promotions. The promotion was launched on April 1,
the two-year anniversary of the brands entry into the China market,
and ends March 31, 2007. There are currently 51 hotels either open
or under development in 29 cities in China. For information about
