CARLSON HOTELS Asia division will operate its first of three planned Regent hotels in China when the 500-room Regent Shanghai opens in spring 2005. The Regent Shanghai will be followed by Regent hotels in Ningbo and Beijing, scheduled to open in October 2005 and September 2006, respectively. Construction of the 53-story hotel is underway in Shanghais Changning District, near the citys central business district and Carlson Hotels Radisson Plaza Xing Guo Hotel.

ACCOR said it will operate the Fortune Hotel Bangkok under its Mercure brand. The 400-room hotel is in the midst of a multimillion-dollar renovation that is to be completed in December, at which time it will be rebranded the Grand Mercure Fortune Bangkok. The hotel is located on Ratchadapisek Road, near the recently opened Bangkok Mass Rapid Transit  underground system (Rama 9 Station), adjacent to the Fortune Town shopping plaza. The hotel features several restaurants, a swimming pool, spa, fitness center and ballroom.

THE MARCO POLO HOTEL GROUP struck a marketing partnership with Vietnam Airlines and its Golden Lotus Plus frequent-flyer program. Effective Sept. 1, members of Golden Lotus Plus can earn frequent-flyer points at any of the Marco Polo Hotel Groups properties in Asia. Members can redeem points at Marco Polo Hotels. The Marco Polo Hotel Group has nine properties in Asia, including seven in China and Hong Kong, one in the Philippines and one in Vietnam.

THE REGAL KOWLOON HOTEL launched an extended-stay package for business travelers to Hong Kong. The package starts at $21,800 a month (30 consecutive nights) through Dec. 31. It includes local calls, in-room Internet, shuttle service to Regal Airport Hotel or Regal Oriental Hotel, in-room movies, daily newspaper, use of the fitness room and 50% discount on dry cleaning and minibar.
