Travel Weeklys Hawaii E-letter: Oct. 11, 2004

MARRIOTT INTERNATIONAL will take over the management contract for the Kapalua Bay Hotel in Maui. The vacancy was left when Starwood pulled out of the property this summer, which opened the doors for Marriott to name the Kapalua Resort property its latest Renaissance Resort. Maui Land & Pineapple has been the principal investor in the property since Aug. 31. There is currently a Renaissance Resort in Wailea, also on Maui, which is in the process of being sold to Starwood -- rumors are circulating that it will become a W brand hotel and resort.

VERA WANG, renowned fashion designer, partnered with the Halekulani to style a luxury suite in the hotel, which will be known as the Vera Wang Suite at Halekulani. In addition to the suite (set for completion in December), Wang will open a lifestyle boutique in the hotel that will sell home accessories, furnishings and jewelry she designed with Hawaii in mind. The boutique is scheduled for completion in the spring. See www.halekulani.com/verawang/introduction.asp for more information.
