Travel Weeklys Home-based Agent E-letter: Feb. 21, 2005

TRADEWIND TOURS, an operator specializing in the Caribbean, aims to attract more agent business with a new incentive program. Joe Walkosky, director of national accounts, said the firm is eager to work with home-based retailers. Under the incentive program, agents who book $50,000 in total revenue through May will qualify for a seven-night vacation in a three-bedroom villa on St. Lucia. The award will be limited to the first five agents, or agencies, that reach the benchmark, he said. The firm works with some 300 resorts, hotels and villas, mostly high-end, throughout the Caribbean, Walkosky said. Agents can contact him with questions about programs or the incentive program at (800) 860-8013, Ext. 1016.

CRUISE PLANNERS CFO Lynn Korn joined the American Express U.S. Representative Network Advisory Board. Korns new position will enable her to provide input on Amexs products, programs and services from the perspective of a travel supplier. Cruise Planners, the Coral Gables, Fla.-based company that counts many at-home agents among its franchisees, last year became an American Express Travel Services Representative agency. Korn will serve a three-year term on the board.

IN YOUR POCKET: Mile Hi Tours said agents earn an automatic 15% commission when booking clients on Mexico vacations on line at www.milehitours.com through April 5. Retailers first must register at the site. The tour operator noted that it enables agents to put a 48-hour courtesy hold on reservations without giving credit card information.
