Travel Weeklys Home-based Agent E-letter: May 15, 2006

DETERMINING the role of host agencies, learning how to launch a home-based travel agency and making the transition from a brick-and-mortar location are among the topics of discussion at the annual Home-Based Show for Travel Agents, Oct. 19 to 21. The Outside Sales Support Network, an organization for at-home and/or independent retailers, is holding its annual conference in conjunction with the show and will present a series of programs such as those noted above.

THE SHOW is being produced by Travel Industry Shows at the San Jose (Calif.) Convention Center in tandem with the Honeymoon and Romantic Getaways show. OSSNs conference is at the nearby Fairmont Hotel in San Jose. Agents can sign up and receive early-bird pricing through May -- $49, not including a hotel stay. Details are at www.homebasedagentshow.com (promotion code: 3044), or call (925) 701-0225. Other participating industry groups include the Travel Institute, CLIA and Global Travel International.

OSSN President Gary Fee said that his decision to present his annual conference in conjunction with the Home Based show was based on the secure knowledge that this was the most tried-and-true formula for his travel agent and supplier members in a proven venue. He added that the previous Home Based show in Baltimore last September drew 1,363 travel agents from 44 states and five Canadian provinces.

IN YOUR POCKET:Railagent.com boosted its commission rate to 13.5% for all new Eurail bookings made before May 31. Travel agents receive same-day order processing and instant commission checks, regardless of the travel date. Get details at www.railagent.com.
