THE HILTON CANCUN GOLF & SPA RESORT has reopened after a $40 million renovation to repair damage caused by Hurricane Wilma. In addition to structural and aesthetic fixes, Hilton said the beach received the biggest repair, gaining more than 150 feet from shore to property. The resorts roofs and exterior and interior walls were repaired, and a translucent blue dome was installed atop the pyramid-shaped building. Among the many changes, all 426 guest rooms received new furniture, furnishings, televisions and air conditioners plus new Suite Dreams mattresses and upscale toiletries. The 12,000-square-foot spa was restored, and the fitness center added a sports bar and fitness equipment, including cardio machines with personal LCD screens for watching satellite TV. CHOICE HOTELS INTERNATIONAL has expanded its presence in Mexico by opening three hotels in Mexico City and signing Mexicana Airlines as its 11th airline rewards partner. In Mexico City, Choice opened a Quality Inn and a Quality Suites in the capitals Zona Rosa neighborhood as well as a new-build, seven-story Quality Inn in the Colonia Roma district. Meanwhile, effective June 15, members of Mexicana Airlines loyalty program, Frecuenta, will earn 250 miles for staying at a Choice Hotels property in the U.S., Mexico and the Caribbean. Members of the Choice Privileges reward program will be able to earn points when flying on Mexicana.

FUNJET VACATIONS AND FRONTIER AIRLINES are offering discounts on vacation packages to Mexico plus a promotion offering agents a chance to win two years of DirecTV service at home. Under the promotion, customers who book select packages to Mexico by May 31 and travel from June 1 to Dec. 15 will receive a $50 discount. In addition, for every booking, agents will be entered to win two years of DirecTV service at home. CLICK MEXICANA, the Mexican low-cost carrier, said it plans to enter the U.S. market on June 1 when it begins flying between Cancun and Miami. Owned by Mexicana Airlines, Click plans to offer three daily flights between Miami and Cancun aboard Fokker F100 planes.
