Nothing says romance like a luxury hotel getaway. And this time of year, companies clamor to come up with the unique packages to lure Valentine’s Day spenders.
There is of course, the usual list of special room package with champagne, spa treatments and special meals. There is the unusual, like a skydiving adventure from a private jet over the Everglades being offered by the Mayfair Hotel & Spa in Miami.
And then of course there is the over-the-top expensive, like the $100,000 “Dazzle you in Diamonds Package” from The Ritz-Carlton South Beach, also in Miami, which includes Cristal champagne, 15.4-carat diamond hoop earrings from Duchamp Jewelry for her, 4.34-carat round pave white diamond cuff links for him, 10,000-square-foot ballroom rental for slow dancing the night away with private DJ, 100 red roses and two 110-minute facials.
Or the $50,000 Ultimate Romance Package from the New York Palace, which includes a night in the 5,000-square-foot Jewel Suite by Martin Katz and a private consultation with Katz for the creation of a custom-designed piece of diamond jewelry and a customized six course tasting for two in the Gallery at Villard Michel Richard.
The list of specials offering is seemingly endless, and reads like a competition.
But if there were an award for this year's most unique -- and expensive -- offering, it might have to go to the Capella Georgetown in Washington and Saks Fifth Avenue, who have taken the Valentine’s Day package to a whole new level with the $777,777 “Capital Engagement” Package.
The centerpiece is a 5.01-carat, cushion-cut, white diamond ring set on a pink diamond pave shank (ta 5.39 carat diamond in total) by Graff Diamonds.
The offer runs from Feb. 10 to 16 and includes the engagement ring, a $5,000 shopping spree at Saks, private jet transportation with transfers in a Bentley, a two-night stay in the presidential suite, couples massage, manicures and pedicures, meals that include a champagne breakfast in bed, a private tour to Mount Vernon, a horse-drawn carriage ride, and an engagement party for 20 guests in the hotel rooftop's lounge and brunch for the guests the following day (according to the Capella, the engagement party is meant to be a surprise — guests would check in to the property while the couple is offsite — and oh, yes, the guest rooms are included in the rate).
I hope it also includes some good chocolate.
