AAA announced that it plans to launch a full-service Internet-based
branch by year's end. Imagine, a traditional agency with an
established name providing full service on the Web, a place that
until now has been reserved for entrepreneurs, noname upstarts and
Microsoft. Here's to the old guard's joining the party, even if
they do stand out like somebody's dad at a Hanson concert.
The Samsonite Travel Expo at the Palisades Center Mall in West
Nyack, N.Y., now features "interactive displays" with phones that
enable mallrats to book Carnival and Superclubs vacations. The
store is staffed with trained "guides" who offer travel-planning
advice. In the name of all that is good, someone please help these
poor shoppers and open a travel agency in that mall.
