Setting sail for India, Asia and Africa, destination specialist Voyages of Discovery, based in Fort Lauderdale, is offering two-for-one pricing with free airfare on select cruises on its Winter Voyages 2009-10 program.
The 650-passenger Discovery will call at 27 new ports and offer optional vacation extensions to the Taj Mahal, Angkor Wat and other sites. A three-night safari to Amboseli and Tsavo national parks is included in cruise programs to and from Mombasa.
Two-for-one fares are available on sailings between Nov. 28 and March 1. The promotion is capacity-controlled and requires a $500 nonrefundable deposit. Cruises feature free air or air add-ons from $495 to $795.
Sample cruises include the 26-night Passage to India, which begins Nov. 25 and offers two-for-one fares and free air from all Discovery gateway cities. The Barcelona to Mumbai cruise includes a two-night hotel stay in Barcelona and calls at Valletta, Malta; Alexandria and Safaga (Luxor), Egypt; Aqaba (Petra), Jordan; Al Hudayduh, Yemen; and Salalah and Masqat, Oman. Fares start at $7,765 for the first guest; the companion pays port taxes of $295. Both receive free roundtrip air.
From Mumbai, a 16-night India and the East voyage departs Dec. 20 to Singapore, visiting Marmagoa, Cochin and Chennai (formerly Madras), India; Colombo, Sri Lanka; Phuket, Thailand; and Penang and Port Kelang (Kuala Lumpur), Malaysia. Fares begin at $4,895. The second person pays port charges of $250.
The 650-passenger Discovery was built in 1972 in Germany. Previously named the Island Princess, sister ship to the Love Boat, the ship underwent a multimillion-dollar refit before entering service as Discovery in 2003.
Facilities include 351 cabins and suites, three restaurants; five lounges; health club and two swimming pools.
The company pays up to 13% commission, based on production, promotion and consortia membership; up to 15% for group promotions; and pays a 10% airfare add-on commission.
