Some consumers know full well about commission cuts. But do they
care?
According to a survey commissioned by Travel Weekly, most
travelers who use travel agents are aware that the airlines capped
commissions in 1995, but most didn't know about the 1998 pay limits
on international bookings. Although the survey didn't delve into
it, I suspect that most respondents, even those that know about the
caps and cuts, still wouldn't feel bad if their agent ruptured a
vital organ in an effort to find them the cheapest fare.
Budgetel Inns completed its name conversion to Baymont Inns
& Suites. Officials hope that the new name will convey a
different message about the chain and will forge an image
characterized by quality amenities and services. Shrewd industry
observers predicted the change will be highly beneficial for the
chain, noting if you have the word "budget" in your name, people
tend to think "cheap."
