Asia Pacific briefs: Cathay Pacific to increase U.S. service with new long-haul jets

Cathay Pacific Airways on Oct. 1 took delivery of the first of six Boeing 777-300ER (Extended Range) airplanes that will be delivered this year to help expand its North America services. In all, Cathay Pacific has ordered 32 of the long-range wide-bodies.

The plane is flying between Hong Kong and Seoul, South Korea, until Nov. 15, when it will be repositioned to introduce Cathay Pacific's second daily nonstop to New York (Kennedy). The airline also offers a third, connecting daily service to and from New York via Vancouver.

The new 777 is the fourth to be fitted with Cathay Pacific's revamped three-class cabins. The airline's entire long-haul fleet will offer the new cabins by the end of 2009.

Cathay Pacific will take delivery of five more 777-300ERs in 2008, another five in 2009, three in 2010 and five in 2011.
