The Caravelle Hotel in downtown Ho Chi Minh City has converted from magnetized room keys to advanced radio frequency identification technology. The new keys need to be in the proximity of the door to unlock it.

“Because the microchip communication with the lock is infallible, our guests will never have to come to the front desk with malfunctioning keys again,” said Linton Borthwick, executive assistant manager of rooms.

Currently, the Caravelle is conducting its mobile check-in from the lobby, but the hotel expects to extend this option to other areas, including the rooftop bar, the elevator and the pool.
