New Zealands Blanket Bay lodge honored

GLENORCHY, New Zealand -- Blanket Bay, a luxury lodge on New Zealands South Island, was recognized in Andrew Harpers Hideaway Reports annual Worlds Best Hotels awards.

Andrew Harpers is a publication that reviews luxury hotels and resorts worldwide. For the third straight year, Blanket Bay ranked second on the International Resort Hideaways list, a category comprising resorts with 50 or fewer rooms.

Also, Blanket Bay captured the eighth spot in the Best International Resort Hotels category and was the only New Zealand property to be named. Blanket Bay is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.

Guests enjoy views of the snowcapped Humbolt Mountains, Greenstone Valley and Lake Wakatipu. The main lodge has five lakeside lodge rooms and three 700-square-foot suites.

Two chalets offer two 700-square-foot Stoney Creek Suites with a central living room that can be combined to create the Richardson Stateroom. All suites have stone fireplaces in the living room.

Located in an area commonly referred to as The Adventure Capital of the World, individuals can participate in activities such as rock climbing, fly-fishing, bungee jumping, jet-boat riding, horseback riding and heli-skiing (a helicopter flies skiers to a part of a mountain inaccessible by ski lift).

Nightly room rates are about $847 for a lodge room, $1,306 for a lodge suite, $1,306 for a Stoney Creek suite and $1,569 for the Richardson Range Stateroom. Rates are based on double occupancy and do not include 12.5% government tax. Lodging can be booked through the major GDSs. Commission is 10%. Included in the cost are breakfast, dinner and pre-dinner cocktails and use of sports equipment and facilities.
