SYDNEY -- The 577-room Hilton Sydney, closed since November 2002, will reopen July 15 following a $200 million reconstruction and refurbishment.

The vision of the reopening of the Hilton Sydney is to completely rethink every aspect of the hotel -- design; people and services; food and beverage; wine; uniforms; communication; and events and conferencing, said Oded Lifschitz, vice president, Hilton Australasia.

The debut of the new-look Hilton Sydney, as Lifschitz termed it, will unveil the following dining venues, bars and conference and event facilities:

  • Glass (the hotel spells it with a lower-case g), a French-style brasserie with a contemporary twist, designed by New York-based designer Tony Chi.

  • Zeta bar, a spin-off from Zeta London at the Hilton Park Lane.

  • Marble Bar, a historical watering hole that opened on its current site in 1893 and serves up live music as well as Aussie ale, wine and cocktails.

  • A new-look George Adams Bar.

  • Cafe Cino, a streetside, casual eatery.

  • Living Well Premier Health Club, the biggest hotel-based health club in Australia and the largest and most luxurious club in the Sydney city center.

  • Four dedicated levels of event and conference space with a capacity for 3,000 delegates.
  • The Hilton Hotel in Sydney opened in the 1970s as Australias first five-star hotel.
