More than 140,000 Olympic tickets were sold at 19 ticket booths across Beijing on Friday, the first day of the fourth and final phase of Olympic tickets sales.
It was the last chance for Chinese citizens to buy tickets for the Games, with 250,000 going on sale starting at 9 a.m., the Associated Press reported. Crowds of more than 50,000 scrambled to try and get tickets as police struggled to gain control of the situation.
Fourteen Olympic venues in Beijing sold out, according the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games. The committee reported that lines for tickets began forming several days before the start of ticket sales.
The 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing will take place Aug. 8 to 24.
