Taiwan promoting youth travel to region

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwan's National Youth Commission named 2006 the Youth Travel Year and the Taiwan Tourism Bureau is working with the commission to promote youth travel to the region with a series of incentive programs, including discounts, travel cards and work opportunities.

The government hopes to increase youth travel by 25% by 2008 by creating a youth-friendly travel environment, including improvements in public transportation; expanded accommodations for bikers and backpackers; initiating airline discounts; and creating a variety of other incentives.
