American Airlines launched daily roundtrip service between Miami and Cap Haitien, Haiti, on Oct. 2.

It is the first nonstop service from the U.S. to the destination.

The facility was renamed the Hugo Chavez International Airport in 2013 to honor the late Venezuelan president, whose government provided most of the funds for the airport renovation and terminal construction.

Regional carriers serving Cap Haitien include Air Turks and Caicos to Providenciales and Sunrise Airways to Port-au-Prince and Providenciales.
