American Airlines expands in St. Thomas

American Airlines launched new service to St. Thomas from both Chicago and Dallas.

Flights from Chicago O'Hare serve Cyril King airport in St. Thomas on Saturdays through April 4. Flights from Dallas will operate year-round on Saturdays.

The carrier also added a third daily flight between Miami and St. Thomas through the summer season.

A third daily flight between Miami and St. Croix will operate from June 4 through Aug. 17.

U.S. Virgin Islands tourism commissioner Joseph Boschulte said the expansion in airlift to St. Croix "dovetails seamlessly with the Department of Tourism's efforts to increase stakeholder support for its long-term strategy to strengthen demand for St. Croix by developing a distinctive brand for the island."

Correction: An earlier version of this report incorrectly said that the new service was winter service.
