GEORGE TOWN, Grand
Cayman -- Another sign of Grand Caymans recovery from last falls
hurricane is the resumption of Atlantis Adventures 48-passenger
Atlantis XI submarines daily undersea voyages to reefs and
shipwrecks off George Town.
The tourist
attraction, one of the destinations most popular, had been
suspended since Ivan struck the island last September.
The 90-minute
excursion begins and ends at the Atlantis dock, next to the cruise
tender boat pier in George Town. The air-conditioned sub dives to
depths of 100 feet, guided by a pilot and co-pilot. Passengers view
marine life through oversized portholes.
Later this year,
Atlantis Adventures will resume deep-dive voyages as far down as
1,000 feet below the surface of the Caribbean Sea.
