BTA, New York Mets pitch 3-year deal

Maybe it does not have the drama of a New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox duel, but the new partnership between Barbados and Major League Baseballs New York Mets may prove a winning combination.

The Barbados Tourism Authority signed a three-year deal with the Mets to promote Barbados at all home and away games through the 2008 baseball season.

If a Mets player hits a home run at Shea Stadium during a specially designated inning, one fan at the stadium for all home games and one who is registered online at for all road games will win a free trip to Barbados.

The BTA also will offer a Mets-themed weekend package in Barbados next fall to all season ticket holders.

Were pleased to partner with the Barbados Tourism Authority, said Dave Howard, executive vice president, business operations, New York Mets. This agreement further drives our fans awareness of one of the Caribbeans most beautiful islands.

In turn, the BTA is excited to work with this world-renowned baseball team, according to Bill Silvermintz, BTAs vice president of marketing for the Americas. The partnership offers fans the opportunity to see what Barbados has to offer.
