The winner of the annual Taste of the Caribbean culinary competition, organized by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association, was Rashindra Donge of Bonaire.
Donge was named the first female Caribbean Chef of the Year in the 21-year history of the event, held at the Hyatt Regency in Miami June 28-July 2.
Puerto Rico took top honors for the third time in the event's history as the Caribbean National Team of the Year.
Individual honors also went to Brandon DeCloux, U.S. Virgin Islands, for Caribbean Bartender of the Year; three-time winner Sheldon Tracey Sweeting, Bahamas, Caribbean Pastry Chef of the Year; and Sanju Smit, Jamaica, Caribbean Junior Chef of the Year.
Taste of the Caribbean featured head-to-head culinary competitions among 10 culinary teams from Anguilla, Bahamas, Barbados, Bonaire, Curacao, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, St. Lucia, Suriname and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The event was open to the public, who sampled appetizers, desserts and cocktails.
