Allen Chastanet, chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organization, named Hugh Riley as CTO's interim secretary general, filling the post left vacant when Arley Sobers died on Aug. 14.
Sobers had assumed the interim post in July when the secretary general at the time, Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace, stepped down to become minister of tourism and aviation for the Bahamas.
Riley, CTO's director of marketing for the Americas, will fill the post while the CTO's executive committee completes the search for a new secretary general.
During this period, Sylma Brown Bramble, deputy director for projects and administration, will assume Riley's duties as director of marketing for the Americas.
Riley was named marketing director in March 2002 and has since overseen the CTO's marketing program in the U.S. and Canada. He also is co-COO of the Caribbean Tourism Development Co., the marketing and business development unit owned equally by the CTO and the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association.
