A new initiative from the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) highlights the region as the leading choice for a romance vacation.

The Year of Romance in the Caribbean spotlights the romantic features of the region, and as its name suggests it goes beyond the traditional times such as Valentine’s Day.

The CTO, in cooperation with the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association, will assist member countries with ideas, which can be implemented around the theme to appeal to consumers, agents and tour operators.

More specific themes include vow renewals, first or second marriages, locations in which to pop the question, milestone anniversaries, gift registries for romantic vacations and return visits by couples who were married or honeymooned in the Caribbean.

“We envision airline partners also getting involved with their own ‘love is in the air’ offers and recognizing bridal parties onboard who are heading to a destination wedding in the Caribbean,” said Hugh Riley, the CTO’s secretary general.
