Innovative investment strategies will be the focus of a panel during the first Caribbean Tourism Summit, set for June 21 to 24 in Washington.
The conference is organized by the Caribbean Tourism Development Co., the marketing and business development unit owned equally the Caribbean Hotel Association and the Caribbean Tourism Organization.
The June 23 panel, which will be moderated by Auliana Poon, managing director of the Tourism Intelligence International consultancy firm, will focus on methods used by the Caribbean region to create business opportunities in healthcare, partnerships and communication.
Panelists include Timothy Dentry, managing director for John Hopkins Medicine International, who will focus on innovative healthcare techniques; and David Pavelko, Google's eastern regional director of travel, who will address the development, marketing and revenue opportunities of online ventures.
Travelocity's chief marketing officer, Jeffrey Glueck and Glen Beache, minister of tourism for St. Vincent & the Grenadines, will focus on the growing trend of voluntourism in the region.
Other components of the conference include:
- Town hall meetings between members of the Caribbean diaspora and ministers of tourism on June 22.
- A keynote speech by Alan Greenspan, former chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve, June 23.
- A workshop on small-business investment in the tourism sector, June 24.
