Caribbean tourism execs to meet with Spanish hotel leaders

In recognition of the role of Spanish investors in the sustainable development of Caribbean tourism and the expansion of their presence beyond Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Cuba, the heads of the Caribbean Hotel Association and the Caribbean Tourism Organization will meet in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, on Sept. 14 with executives of Spanish hotel chains operating in the Caribbean.

Peter Odle, CHA president, and Allen Chastanet, CTO chairman, will head a delegation from the Caribbean hotel and tourism sectors that will include Simon Suarez, former CHA president and currently Hilton Hotels' chief development representative for Latin America and the Caribbean; Grenadian hotelier Royston Hopkin, chairman of the Caribbean Alliance for Sustainable Tourism; David Jesspo, executive director of the London-based Caribbean Council; Alec Sanguinette, CHA's director general and CEO; and Tanya Lazarus, CHA's director of membership development.

Spanish hoteliers expected to attend the meeting include Gabriel Escarrer, president of Sol Melia; Miguel Fluxa, president of Grupo Iberostar; Abel Matutes, president of the Fiesta Hotel Group; Simon Pedro Barcelo, co-chairman of Barcelo Enterprises, and Pablo Pinero, president of Grupo Pinero.
