Coral World Ocean Park in St. Thomas, one
of the destination's most popular attractions, has opened the
Lorikeet Garden, the largest exhibit to be added to Coral World
since the park reopened in 1998.
The
1,600-square-foot, walk-through aviary allows parrots to take
flight within the enclosed space.
Currently the
aviary houses 20 birds, 17 of which are multi-colored rainbow
lorikeets, a type of parrot typically found in Australia. Visitors can purchase a cup of
nectar to feed the birds, which are sociable and
friendly.
Other interactive
activities at Coral World include a shark encounter program,
designed for close contact with sharks in the Shark Shallows Pool;
Sea Trek, which allows visitors to walk along a trail on the sea
floor at a depth of 15 feet, thanks to high-tech headgear and a
continuous air supply; and snuba, a combination of snorkeling and
scuba.
