While visitor figures sag throughout much of the Caribbean, Cuba welcomed its 2 millionth visitor of the year on Nov. 14 with a salsa band and mojitos.
Cuba expects to set a visitor record this year, despite three hurricanes and a global economic crisis, according to the Associated Press.
Cuba has exceeded the 2 million mark every year since 2004, according to Alexis Trujillo, first vice minister of tourism. He predicted that 2008's figures would exceed the record 2.3 million visitors set in 2005. In 2007, Cuba had 2.1 million visitors.
Canada, Britain, Spain and Italy rank as the island's top four sources of visitors.
