Francisco Javier Garzia was appointed minister of tourism for the Dominican Republic, following the recent reelection of President Leonel Fernandez.

Garcia led the ministry of industry and commerce from 2004 to 2007 before assisting Fernandez with his reelection campaign.

Garcia, who earlier served as executive director of the Dominican Port Authority, succeeded Feliz Jimenez, who held the tourism post for eight years.
