Tropical Storm Danny poses no threat to the Caribbean, but could produce rip tides and high surf along the East Coast from the Carolinas north to New England this weekend.
The storm, which strengthened overnight, was well off the North Carolina coast Thursday morning but was expected to veer toward land on a slow-moving course, according to the National Hurricane Center.
With winds of 60 mph, Danny still was a tropical storm. Winds above 74 mph would push it to a Category One hurricane.
