Dick Doumeng, owner and manager of Bolongo Bay Beach Resort in St. Thomas and longtime board member of the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA), died Nov. 19 in St. Thomas.
Doumeng and his wife Joyce opened Bolongo Bay in 1974, and the property, now 62 rooms, remains a family-run operation.
Doumeng was president of the St. Thomas/St. John Hotel Association six times and served as a director for 20 years. He was a regional vice president of CHTA and held the position of CHTA director for 20 years.
In 1988, the Doumengs were named Hoteliers of the Year by CHTA, making them the first and only husband-wife team to be so honored.
His son, Richard Doumeng, is the current president of CHTA and continues to run Bolongo Bay Beach Resort.
