The Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange is slated for April 1 to 3 at the Barcelo Bavora Convention Center in Punta Cana.
More than 150 tour operators and 283 hoteliers are expected to take part in DATE, which is organized by the National Hotels and Restaurants Association and the Council Tourism Promotion under the auspices of the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism.
The event is designed as a business interchange, enabling travel agents and tour operators to meet and negotiate with the leading suppliers in the Dominican Republic's tourism sector.
Certain to come up in discussions at DATE are the January numbers for the Dominican Republic, described as "the start of another good year for the D.R.'s tourism industry, as stayover arrivals rose 5.5% in January, compared with the same month in 2007," according to Tourism Minister Felix Jimenez.
Total arrivals for the month came to 353,236 with U.S. numbers accounting for a 7.5% increase over January 2007.
Total visitors from January through November 2007 numbered more than 3.5 million, which represented a slight increase of 0.1% over 2006, a 1.4% jump in the winter season and an increase in overall cruise passengers of 18.4% through October of 2007.
The Bavora Center is located 12 miles from Punta Cana Airport and a one-hour drive from La Romana Airport.
It has a capacity of 5,000, with 13 meetings rooms, several large ballrooms and a wide range of services.
