Fallout from the economic woes affecting the travel industry has forced the cancellation of the Turks and Caicos International Film Festival, originally set for Oct. 15 to 18 in Providenciales.
"Unfortunately, the tough economic times globally, and particularly in the U.S., also have impacted us here in the Turks and Caicos Islands. As a result, we felt it was prudent to cancel this year's festival," said Wayne Garland, executive chairman of the Turks and Caicos Islands Board of Tourism.
The festival, which celebrates cultural diversity through cinema and honors various filmmakers, tentatively has been rescheduled for Oct. 21 to 24, 2009.
The Turks and Caicos Music and Cultural Festival, set for July 28 to Aug. 4 in Providenciales, is still on the calendar. Featured performers include Lionel Ritchie, Anita Baker, LL Cool J, T-Pain and Ne-Yo.
