First Jack Nicklaus Golf Club to be located in the Bahamas

Royal Island, Bahamas, a private island development under construction near Harbor Island and Eleuthera in the Bahamas' Out Islands, will feature the first Jack Nicklaus Golf Club, one of 25 such 18-hole golf clubs to be built under the Nicklaus' name in specific international markets.

The eastern portion of the 440-acre uninhabited island, located about 190 miles east of Miami, will be devoted to the golf experience, according to Cypress Equities, the development affiliate of Dallas-based Staubach Co.

Initial clearing for the course and golf club began in April. Since groundbreaking, 13 holes have been cleared for the development and construction of the course. Major construction on the golf course will begin in the first quarter of 2008, with completion set for the fourth quarter of 2009.

In addition to the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club, Royal Island will include a boutique hotel to be managed and operated by Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants, a spa, a natural deep-water marina with up to 300 slips, a village center of retail shops and single family estates.

Royal Island will be accessible via boat or helicopter from Eleuthera.
