Five times a lady: T.S. Emily heads for eastern Caribbean

MIAMI -- Tropical Storm Emily, the fifth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, churned toward the eastern Caribbean July 12 as hurricane warnings went up for Barbados, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and St. Lucia.

Meanwhile, a tropical storm warning and a hurricane watch are in effect for Tobago and a tropical storm watch is in effect for Martinique.

The National Hurricane Center said that Emily has the potential to become a hurricane before reaching the first line of Caribbean islands.

Emily comes on the heels of Hurricane Dennis, which is blamed for 32 deaths in Cuba and Haiti and five in Florida and Georgia.

Dennis cuts its path through the Caribbean July 8 and 9 before making landfall near Pensacola, Fla., July 10.
