GEORGETOWN, Grand Cayman -- The government has lifted the island-wide curfew here, which had been in effect since Hurricane Ivan devastated Grand Cayman on Sept. 12.

The curfew originally ran from dusk-to-dawn but as road debris was cleared and electricity gradually came back on in various parts of Grand Cayman, the curfew hours were shortened. The most recent curfew ran from midnight to 5 a.m.

Cruise ships have returned to the island; many properties, shops and restaurants have reopened. Still in short supply are taxis and rental cars, although many visitors rent bicycles to pedal around the flat island.
