Grenada resort starts turtle conservation program

Blue Horizons Garden Resort in Grenada has partnered with Ocean Spirits, a local nonprofit organization focused on marine turtle conservation.

Blue Horizons and Ocean Spirits will hold weekly presentations and environmental discussions on the preservation of the island’s sea turtles and coastal waters. The sessions will educate guests on the turtles’ environment, habits and nesting and inform guests about ways to prevent environmental threats against nautical animals.

"The partnership blends with Blue Horizons’ green initiatives to raise environmental awareness and gives our guests a hands-on experience with the island’s wildlife," said Arnold Hopkin, the resort’s owner and manager.

Blue Horizons is a Green Globe Benchmarked property and is on the path toward securing Green Globe Certification.

Green initiatives launched at the resort include purification of the main swimming pool using salt instead of chlorine; creating a process that operates the resort's laundry system using 100% rain water, which saves up to 500 gallons of water a day; and distributing reusable shopping bags to guests.
