The worst of Hurricane Rafael is expected to pass east of Bermuda early Tuesday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Farther south, Rafael dumped up to 12 inches of rain on the northern Leeward Islands over the weekend, causing flash floods and mudslides in some areas.

Tourists hunkered down at resorts, waiting until airports gradually reopened.

At the Four Seasons in Nevis, a lot of guests were "playing dominoes and generally having a quiet day," a spokesperson said. The resort's new beach cottages suffered no damage.
