For many, a Caribbean escape represents
a significant investment, and the fear of a washed-out week can make some
travelers cautious when planning a vacation.
To address this booking hesitancy, Jamaica’s Tourist Board has
partnered with JetBlue
Vacations and WeatherPromise to launch the Great Weather
Guarantee, a destination-specific protection for Jamaica vacation
packages. Eligible flight and hotel bookings
of three to 16 nights made between March 1 and May 31 will automatically include rain protection at no additional
cost.
JetBlue Vacations said the collaboration marks the first time a
destination-based weather guarantee has been integrated directly into a vacation package.
"Consumers understand that an occasional brief shower might
be part of the Caribbean's ecosystem, but they also worry that an afternoon of
rain might spoil their Jamaican beach plans,” WeatherPromise co-founder Dan Price told me. “This
fear of bad weather -- not just a fleeting afternoon shower -- deters travelers from
taking an amazing trip. WeatherPromise steps in to guarantee great weather for
travelers. If they don't see the weather we promise, WeatherPromise
automatically issues a payout."
How it works
According
to program reps, advanced satellite and radar data are used to monitor rainfall
throughout a traveler's stay. If weather conditions exceed a specific threshold
based on the itinerary, customers automatically receive $500 back. The process
is entirely seamless, requiring no paperwork or claims from the traveler. After
booking, customers receive a personalized dashboard to track their coverage
details.
“There are no forms to fill out and nothing to submit,” said Jamie Perry, president of JetBlue Paisly, the carrier's travel service platform. “If the conditions are met, customers
are notified and can quickly select how they would like to receive the payout.
It’s a simple, transparent approach that gives travelers more confidence when
they book, because they know exactly what to expect and that JetBlue Vacations
will follow through. More broadly, this partnership shows how destinations can
ease concerns about weather, encourage travel beyond peak seasons and build
long-term loyalty by putting the guest experience first.”
The guarantee applies to travel completed by
Dec. 1, and travel must be booked at least seven days in advance.
In addition to weather protection, travelers to Montego Bay continue to benefit
from JetBlue Vacations’ Insider Experience, which includes 24/7 local support and
complimentary airport transfers.
