Returning guests entering the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino this winter season are in for a big surprise.
Gone will be the traditional lobby of old. In its place is the Great Room, an area composed of individual zones for conversations, business meetings and late-night gatherings of friends over tapas and drinks.
“These are communal zones with WiFi access, sofas, intimate lighting, long tables, small cocktail tables and comfortable chairs where food and drink are served, all anchored by the central bar,” said Cristina Roman, marketing communications manager.
The four-month, $2.2 million project will be unveiled on Dec. 9. Dramatic artwork and metal sculptures from local artists are central to the new lobby look, including a massive coral piece that is the focal point for visitors entering the hotel.
The Great Room has a small dance floor and live entertainment.
The project is the latest in the hotel’s plan of upgrades. Its 525 guestrooms, each with a balcony, were redone in 2007.
