The Grenada Tourist Board launched a targeted campaign designed to woo visitors to the Spice Island and to reinforce the spirit of its people as exemplified by Grenadian Kirani James, who captured the Olympic gold medal in the 400-meter track event.
Called “Celebration of Kirani: Celebration of Grenada,” the campaign incorporates a logo featuring James carrying Grenada’s national flag with the tagline “Grenada: Gracious Every Day.”
The campaign rolled out on Grenada’s tourism website at www.grenadagrenadines.com and social media sites.
Components of the campaign include a quote of the day with quotes about James, an island tour of James’ top 10 attractions and activities in Grenada and video footage of James’ homecoming earlier this month.
“Since James’ Olympic win and his gesture of goodwill when he asked fellow competitor Oscar Pistorius [the South African sprint runner who has double below-knee amputations] to exchange bibs, his spirit reflected not just his own personality but also that of all Grenadians as warm and friendly,” said George Vincent, minister of tourism, civil aviation and culture.
Tourism officials hope to capitalize on the awareness James built for Grenada and to convert the heightened name recognition into more visitors.
