Jamaica's national elections, originally set for Aug. 27, have officially been postponed in the aftermath of Hurricane Dean.

The Electoral Commission confirmed the postponement, but a new election date is expected to be announced shortly by Governor General Kenneth Hall.

The Jamaica Labour Party is seeking to unseat the ruling People's National Party led by Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller. The PNP is seeking an unprecedented fifth term in office.
