Jamaica wasted no time tapping into the publicity generated by Volkswagen's Super Bowl commercial starring a no-worries white Midwestern guy cheering up his glum office mates with a lilting Jamaican dialect.  


Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff lends his voice to the ad's version of "The Partridge Family" theme song "Come On, Get Happy."

The tourist board launched a "Get Happy in Jamaica" promotion that offers a free night and discounts at 20 participating hotels. Packages must be booked by March 15 for travel April 1 through June 30.

The ad went viral, racking up more than 10 million views on YouTube to date.

Although the ad rankled some critics who called it racist and demeaning, Jamaica tourism officials were not among them.

Wykeham McNeill,minister of tourism and entertainment, said the ad "paid tribute to the popularity of reggae music, and I salute Jimmy Cliff for being a true Jamaican ambassador through his music. I urge everyone to do what the commercial says, which is to tap into your inner Jamaica and get happy," McNeil said.
