June was good to St. Lucia. Preliminary figures released by the St. Lucia Tourist Board indicated a 6% jump in tourist arrivals over June 2007.
Visitors totalled 23,223 while cruise passengers stayed fairly even with the same month a year ago at 19,619.
U.S. numbers grew to 12,121 arrivals in June, up 8.7% over June 2007. Figures increased from Canada and the U.K., as well. Traffic from Caribbean markets declined 15%, down to 3,490 visitors in June.
Year-to-date, St. Lucia is 9% ahead of last year, with more than 161,000 visitors. The U.S.leads the pack with 63,674 visitors, up 8% over the same period last year.
Cruise traffic is up 10% in the first six month of 2008, to 374,161 passengers. Ships made 13 more calls in the first six months of this year compared with the same period in 2007.
