Marketing for CHA, CTO to become job of new organization

Responsibility for public relations and marketing activities and initiatives related to the Caribbean region will migrate to the Caribbean Tourism Development Co., a marketing and business-development unit owned equally by the Caribbean Tourism Organization and the Caribbean Hotel Association.

The CTDC was announced in June 2005, approved a year later and legally formed last December.

Marking the CTDC's emergence as the single voice to protect, promote, enhance and advance the Caribbean brand will be the announcement later this month of a public relations firm that will handle the dissemination of regional-wide marketing news, strategies and information to the travel industry.

Kahn Travel Communications, which has handled the CTO account for 14 years and was responsible for the launch and development of several programs including the annual Media Marketplace during Caribbean Week in New York, the CTO Public Relations Council and the Crisis Communications Plan related to hurricane preparedness, will step down, effective Aug. 31.

Both the CTO and the CHA will maintain in-house internal public relations representatives for dissemination of news regarding funding, training programs and all non-marketing activities related to both organizations.
